Quality Control Manager - Ex-Military accepted

Job Function & Key Tasks

  • Ensure the expected product quality levels are achieved through product lifecycle management (PLM)
  • Manage a team of CMM programmers delivering world-class component measurement services to our demanding client base
  • Responsible for the programming, measurement and documentation of new plastic components, model board patterns, tooling, jigs and fixtures
  • Support and develop the Quality Auditor team whilst taking an active role.
  • Ensure the inspection team is successful 1st off/last off and production inspection of manufactured components
  • Developing the team through mentoring and identifying training needs
  • Monitoring, measuring and reporting on defined KPIs
  • Support the continuous improvement drive throughout the business
  • Customer facing queries on measurement and inspection data

 

Principle Accountabilities

  • Accountable to the Head of Quality for ensuring inspection activities are carried out efficiently and correctly in line with industry/customer/company standards
  • Supporting the Head of Quality to ensure the effective performance of the team
  • Identifying, defining and implementing opportunities for process and resource improvements
  • Ensuring reporting methods and outputs from inspection activities are clear and precise
  • Maintaining inspection data to industry standard and customer requirements
  • Prioritising CMM machines to achieve defined deadlines
  • Ensure production meetings have a quality presence and filtering necessary actions through the team to support production needs
  • Ensuring necessary support to the Quality engineering team

 

Principle Responsibilities

  • Programming and operating CNC CMM machines using PC-DMIS software to validate component/tooling manufacture
  • Performing all necessary measurement activities to support PPAP activities (ISIR, MSA and Capability studies)
  • Reviewing, interpreting and communicating inspection results to support development and production teams in the decision making of changes required to ensure the accurate manufacture of components
  • Supporting patrol inspection team with first off & last off processes utilising CMM or mechanical measurement techniques (Vernier, Micrometer, DTI, shadowgraph etc.)
  • Supporting paint inspection team with questions about product quality and required actions
  • Supporting new product introduction teams with drawing, fixture and measurement reviews to ensure achievable and accurate production
  • Cross functional support as the business requires

  • Actively supporting Health & Safety roll out leading and lagging Indicators.
  • Only using/operating plant, equipment and machinery for which you have received appropriate training and/or authorisation, and using in accordance with such training
  • Ensure all reporting of Accidents, Hazards and Near Misses, and working with Health & Safety Management to ensure timely closure of incidents/opportunity improvements.

 

Skills and Experience

  • Measuring and reporting dimensional matters on complex injection-moulded or metallic components as required by quality management system and client specifications
  • In depth and extensive knowledge of GD&T and recognised drawing standards (ISO 1101, ASME Y 14.5, BS 8888)
  • Methodical approach to problem solving
  • Programming and operating CNC CMM using PC DMIS (essential)
  • Experience using measurement arms such as FARO (desirable)
  • Providing advice and support to staff and clients on all measurement/inspection matters
  • ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949:2009 or AS9100D quality management systems
  • Working with capability studies, Gauge R&R, MSA & SPC
  • Working with automotive quality requirements and PPAP
  • Interfacing directly with customers in discussions around measurement data

 

Education, Experiences & Qualifications

  • Further education in engineering and/or able to demonstrate competency in a similar role
  • Experience in leading a team (required)
  • Working to/within a Quality Management System (required)
  • Experience dealing with external customers and suppliers (required)
  • IT literate including MS software (required)
  • Completion of GD&T training course (preferred)
  • Completion of AIAG core tools of MSA & SPC (preferred)
  • NPL training/qualification (preferred)
  • Full driving license (required)
