Field Based Service Engineer

Position: Service Engineer
Location: United Kingdom and Ireland – Field Based (UK Travel Needed – Regular Nights Away)
Salary: £35,000 per annum

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team as a Service Engineer, reporting directly to the Service Manager (UK). This role involves servicing high-pressure Air/Gas Compressors in the UK market, with occasional travel within the UK and Ireland, and potential overseas travel for training or to support our German counterparts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute service work (manual) covering mechanical and electrical aspects for warranty, commissioning, and chargeable jobs related to compressors in service in the UK and Ireland. (Factory training provided).
  • Communicate with customers regarding technical service and support aspects.
  • Collaborate with the German HQ to troubleshoot and resolve service requirements, diagnosing problems and agreeing on relevant solutions.
  • Liaise with the Service Manager, Sales & Office Coordinator in the UK.
  • Identify and promote new business opportunities, contributing to the promotion of the client’s brand.
  • Attend training courses as directed to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Support the Service Manager (UK) in health and safety matters, including method and risk assessments for on-site service work.
  • Consider environmental impact in work undertaken, emphasizing recycling and contamination elimination.
  • Produce accurate and detailed service reports for submission to the Service Manager and Operations Manager (UK).
  • Monitor and improve own Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as directed by the Service Manager/Operations Manager, submitting reports as required.
  • Assemble compressor packages within the clients UK workshop as needed.
  • Undertake any other associated duties to support the successful running of Service & Support, directed by the Service Manager/Operations Manager.

Personal Profile:

  • Mechanical/engineering background with apprenticeship and formal training to NVQ levels or equivalent. Working knowledge of electrical systems is desirable.
  • Physically fit, able to work in tight/cramped conditions without risk of injury.
  • Willingness to work away from home Monday-Friday if required, with expenses paid. Travel on Sundays may be necessary.
  • Self-motivated, confident, and willing to assist in all aspects of the business if required.
  • Friendly and polite manner with effective telephone communication skills.
  • Customer-oriented, ensuring professional handling of customer requests.
  • Computer literate, proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (Up to 3 points considered)
  • Ability to work independently and report to the Service Manager (UK) for day-to-day operations.

Working Requirements:

  • As detailed in the "Contract of Employment."
  • Normal working hours: 40 hours a week (0800 – 1700 daily with 1 hour for lunch).
  • Some weekend work may be required based on site/customer requirements.
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays.
  • Salary-based position with occasional extra hours required (within reason) at no extra remuneration.
  • Use of a fully equipped company van.

Working environment at customer premises includes industrial sites and naval/commercial ships, sometimes in tight spaces and at awkward angles.
