Job Title: Sheet Metal Worker

Location: Darwen

Job Type: Permanent, 37 hours per week, working a 4-day week over a 5-day operational week.

Hourly Rate: Competitive based on experience

We are currently seeking skilled Sheet Metal Workers to join our team and contribute to our growing business.

Job Description: The Sheet Metal Worker (Aerospace) is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and repair of sheet metal components used in aircraft and aerospace structures. This role requires a high degree of precision and adherence to strict industry standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in aerospace sheet metal work and a strong understanding of the materials and techniques involved.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal parts for aircraft and aerospace components, following engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment such as shears, brakes, presses, and CNC machinery to cut, bend, and shape metal sheets.
  • Perform drilling, riveting, and fastening operations to join metal parts together, ensuring secure and durable connections.
  • Repair and modify existing aircraft components by replacing or reshaping damaged parts, ensuring they meet the original specifications.
  • Conduct regular inspections of sheet metal components and assemblies to ensure they meet stringent aerospace quality standards and tolerances.
  • Collaborate with engineers, quality control inspectors, and other team members to resolve fabrication challenges and ensure the highest level of workmanship.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Document work performed, including material usage, processes followed, and inspection results.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in sheet metal work, preferably within the aerospace industry.
  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and aerospace specifications.
  • Expertise in working with various metals, including aluminium, titanium, and stainless steel, commonly used in aerospace manufacturing.
  • Experience with precision measuring instruments, such as callipers, micrometres, and height gauges, to ensure accurate fabrication and assembly.
  • Ability to work with high attention to detail and maintain consistency in quality under tight tolerances.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift and manoeuvre large metal sheets and work in various positions for extended periods.
