Job Title: Lead/Senior Design Engineer

Grade: C1 – Senior Engineer

Reports to: Lead/Principal Design Engineers & PHED

Manages: Design Team

Hours of Work: 40

 JOB CONTENT

Primary tasks and duties:

–       Lead Electrification Design Teams (internal and / or external) as allocated by the Head of OLE to meet agreed programmes and budgets

–       Assist Principal Design Engineer where allocated to a design team by the Head of OLE. As necessary manage sub team as required by the Lead Principal OLE Design Engineer.

–       Undertake System, Basic, allocation and Construction design of railway electrification in accordance with appropriate International, National, Railway Group and Network Rail Company Standards. (For Network Rail Projects in accordance within the Company’s Accreditation Certification as per NR/SP/ELP/21130)

–       Where determined competent act as Checker and Approver of designs as appropriate.

–       Ensure that the Company Design Assurance is applied to all allocated projects

–       Assist the Head of OLE in determination of the design scope and the subsequent preparation of the valuation of design elements of Electrification work as part of the tendering process.

–       Manage the interfacing of allocated Design Team(s) with Construction and Commissioning Team(s) where relevant to allocated electrification design & construct projects.

–      Undertake the role Contractor’s Responsible Engineer as required

Secondary tasks and duties:

–       Such duties and tasks as are allocated to you at the discretion of the Company. Such duties will be within capabilities, qualifications and certification of the post holder.

–       Assist in maintaining Design Procedures to ensure they meet the company’s quality and environmental procedures and current best engineering practice.

–       Undertake consultancy projects (feasibility, outline design, etc) in the role of Project Engineer.

–       Deputies as Principal Engineer as required

Qualifications and Training

Essential:

–       Degree qualified or equivalent

–       5+ years proven railway electrification experience (10+ years if not Chartered)

Desirable:

–       Chartered Engineer status

Knowledge

Essential:

–       Understanding of CDM Regulations

–       Knowledge of Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards

–       Understanding of safety, quality and environmental issues relevant to the railway environment

Skills and abilities

Essential:

–       Good communication and organisational skills

–       Experienced in management of design and CAD engineers and teams

Desirable:

–       Experience in using Microstation and Projectwise

–       Proven ability to prepare engineering documentation
